I’m waiting for the arrival of my first worms so I have zero experience,
but your worm bin looks pretty good to me. Thanks for sharing your video
with us, it is very helpful.
I’ve had my wormbin for about 3 months now so I am a newbie too! I think
they say it takes a couple of months before you harvest the casting. I was
told the worms crawl out if the soil gets too dry, too wet, or not enough
food. My bin came with a quite a bit of soil so I think it would be OK. I
have seen others start completely with paper and food scraps, but they do
need some soil to digest. I am also trying to figure out when I should
start harvesting the castings…maybe in a month or so.

none at all. There is a earthy smell to the worm bin but no smell of
rotting food – I try not to put too much food and I cover the food with
soil and bedding.

Very nice presentation you are doing very well hope I can get to that point
one day.
I have had my worm bin going for about a month now and I think its doing
ok. My question is there a way to know when that first bin done or nearly
done , do the worms start trying to crawl out ? How to know when you should
add a second tray. Im sure I didnt start mine correctly. I started with
some peat , also some bagged compost and coffee grounds shredded cardboard
and newspaper, maybe too much soil. But the worms are staying in and doing
their thing.
