Why is there a need for aquaculture?

Question by Jeff B: Why is there a need for aquaculture?
I need about 3 or 4 good reasons.
btw I have to write saying that its a good thing, so answer with positivity.

  2. do you mean aquaculture as in fishkeeping as pets as a hobby, or aquaculture as in farming fish for food or research?

    either way, humans have spent hundreds of years keeping fish, and it’s not something that’s going to die out. either as food or as pets.

    if we didn’t keep and breed fish in captivity, how would we know how they survive in the wild? especially fish that live in remote and muddy rivers and lakes in asia that are exceptionally difficult to study in the wild. there are several fish that have become endangered in the wild and are thriving in breeding colonies in captivity thanks to dedicated fishkeepers. the Bangai Cardinalfish was recently added to the endangered species fish in the wild, fortunately they happily breed in captivity. unlike mammals though, you can’t release captive bred fish into the wild.
