8 Responses to why hydroponics? why now?

1. I love aquaponics, never done it, don’t even have a green thumb. I kind of
   relate it to using solar energy, the start-up costs are higher than the
   norm, but it saves money in the long run.

   Do you happen to know an average cost of electricity for running a small
   system for a family? For instance the energy required to run the pump/drip
   system etc, and the costs associated with that energy requirement.

4. Hi Aaron…great question! I am sure there is research that has been done
   comparing diseases of hydroponics vs. soil, but from a basic fundamental
   standpoint, hydroponics has a lot fewer pathogens. Hydroponics systems by
   nature do not contain soil, this is the organic material in which bacteria,
   both aerobic and anaerobic live. In hydroponics you have more control of
   growing conditions and what environment the plants are being grown in. For
   indoor growing, you need ventilation and aeration!

5. Awesome… keep it up! We don’t use hydroponics to outgrow traditional
   compost. We use it because most of our gardens are on roofs or building
   where weight, maintenance, and water runoff are all HUGE issues 🙂 We do a
   lot of soil gardens for clients as well!
