I planted winter rye and hairy vetch in my front garden area in the front yard. It’s quite lovely. I’ve only ever grown crimson clover for a cover crop so I’m quite interested to see how this does.
Question by Jenny a: why do farmers plant cover crops?
What do you think? Answer below!
Several reasons. Cover crops stop soil from eroding and most of the time they fix much needed nitrogen into the soil. Later they will be tilled in to add extra nutrients to the soil.

You use a cover crop to protect your land form erosion while at the same time producing a usable crop.
