Question by Josh: Why are there suddenly Large Bees?
In the UK these past 2 weeks we’ve had a random string of extremely Sunny and Hot days. I know its not summer yet, it’s still spring but I could not help but notice the size of the Bees I have been seeing recently. Now I’m no Bee expert but I know a typical sized Bee when I see one, but these ones are HUGE! In fact one flew in to my Window yesterday and it literally sounded like someone threw something at it, but there it was buzzing away at my window!

These could be bumble bees, which were quite common years ago, but, like other insects, birds, etc, have been reduced in numbers by pollution and adverse environmental and weather conditions. It is encouraging if they are coming back in bigger numbers; it shows that Nature is fighting back.

Not all bees are the same size as a honey bee. There are bumble bees carpenter bees and even a moth that looks similar. Anyhow they may have had a slight raise in population due to weather conditions.

My guess is that they are tropical bees that we usually don’t get in UK and they have followed a heat wave into our country and probably there will be some wasps and hornets and other winged insects.
