Question by Prophet: Where to get food from family farms?
I’ve just become vegan because of factory farming. I’m not against the consumption of meat but I can’t stand by watching animals be tortured. So my question is where can I buy products that I can be sure come from small farms who allow their animals to graze and live a good life? I live in the Dallas area. Does Whole Foods purchase from factory or small farms?

I feel like i’m wasting away eating cabbage and beans everyday… Please help!

Our Local Mission (on Whole Foods Site)

We are committed to buying from local growers, harvesters and producers. We currently work with over 250 farmers and producers in the South.

We favor growers and producers who farm organically and are dedicated to environmentally friendly, sustainable agriculture.

We actively seek out individual growers in our communities and encourage our department team leaders at each store to buy local items directly.

We partner with groups that support sustainable agriculture efforts.

We offer financial support in the form of low-interest loans to our partner growers and producers who wish to expand and improve.

  2. Local harvest is the best place on the web to find local farmers, CSA’a, farmers markets, Co-ops, etc..

  3. if you go to Earth Fare they normally have little signs that say whether it is local or from far away. I understand what you’re saying about meat, but in places such as Earth Fare and Whole Foods they have meat that is hormone free and sometimes you can even get grass fed beef. In these cases, most of the time, the animals are not treated cruelly or tortured, but actually live a good life. Good luck!

  4. So you don’t mind killing an animal unnecessarily for you to eat, but you want them to be “nice” about it? There are no farms where animals aren’t stressd out, starved, beaten, or dismembered alive.
