Question by : Where do you get 6 week old Ameraucana chickens?
My dad and i are planning on getting 4 hens for our backyard and we dont want to order chicks because you have to order at least 25 for them to survive on their trip and we dont want that many. so we want to just order some hens that will be ready to start laying eggs soon after we get them and only have to order 4.
Can you help? Leave your own answer in the comments!
local pet store or from a local farmer who has Ameraucana chickens for sale.

FInd a local breeder. An ad on Craigs list. I have a friend (in Iowa) that raises some lovely Ameraucana in the Blue/black/splash variety. She has some pullets available but does not ship. I am sure there are others like her around the country, just have to search them out.

try craigslist. there’s a ton of chickens of all breeds and ages, at least where i’m at. you might also try calling up some feed stores out of the phone book and asking. especially during the summer, those feed stores will have older leftovers from the spring.
just so you know, hens don’t start laying for at least four or five months old. and it’s still very hard to sex them at six weeks to make sure you get hens.

There are places that specialize in selling smaller amount of chicks (less then 25).
