I understand that there is some controversy about this wind farm (as there likely is in anything "different"). I heard a news story that they were not given the necessary permits to connect these windmills to the power grid… HELD UP BY ENVIRONMENTALISTS!

So, they DEMAND that we find alternative energy sources, then when somebody puts out a LOT of their hard-earned money to build them, the SAME environmentalists STAND IN THE WAY! GO FIGURE!

Question by bluevil2002: Where could i order or buy a low rpm alternator for me to assemble a windmill generator?

  2. There’s really no such thing as a low RPM alternator. What you’re looking for is a generator. The generator will provide direct current to your battery pack, which is also direct current. An alternator provides alternating current and uses voltage regulators and special plugs that will be a pain to work around. Generators are much simpler, direct, and you can usually go to an auto parts store and order one for a very old car like an old Volkswagen. Cars originally used generators and until recently, we had generators in our HMMWVs (“Humm Vees”).

  3. How about using a smaller pulley on the alt. for more output at lower rpm’s.

  4. You can use any GM alternator. The older the better because the new alternators have all the voltage regulation in them for the vehicle computers. You can probably get one at a junk yard for less than $ 40.
