Question by ♫●♥♪♦ Water Lizard ♫●♥♪♦: Where can I get funding to start organic farm?
I would like to start an organic veg farm, but I have no savings. It will take a long time to save the money.Does anybody know of any grants that can help? All of the small business grants I have looked at are not interested in agriculture. I also contacted DEFRA and they couldn’t help. Any info and/or links greatly appreciated

  1. Have you contacted your local Business Link? They’re very good for free information and advice on starting in business (and after you’re up and running). They also have a lot of information on funding for businesses and can help point you in the right direction even when other funding applications have failed.

Most funders will expect you to put up at least 50% of the investment yourself. In addition, all of them will need to see a sound business plan. If you haven’t already done one, Business Link can help you with the layout and content of it.

Instead of thinking about how long it will take you to save the money, think about how quickly you can earn some. Start off with growing produce on an allotment and also rear seedlings such as tomatoes, cabbages and cauliflowers. Other gardeners will buy those at the start of the season. (Start growing them now!)

    Good luck!
