Spring is in the air here on our little farm. The horses are antsy and getting the spring fever. The kids are outside more enjoying the day and playing new games. The chicken coop is almost ready for it’s new little guests, and the days are finally warm enough to shut down the stove!! We keep it running at night which works well for my little odds and ends that I need to dry on it. This weekend starts the garden work and before I know it spring will be in full swing! I can’t wait!

Hi, I helped raise a litter of 16 pups about six months ago. By th time they were about ten weeks old, I was able to give them watered down cows milk, instead of goats milk, as well as soft and hard food. all 16 pups survived. i fed them tinned puppy food and Purina Dry puppy food. I have found the pups and dogs do much better on this dry food, than other brands. It is a mid priced food. We kept one pup. He is very healthy, and solid, not lean. my profile pic is him at 3 months. Now he eats 2 wheet bix and watered down milk for breakfast, toast for lunch, dry purina with little grated cheese for dinner. i know he doesn’t need 3 meals, but I don’t work, so it is no trouble. He also loves to clean our plates. Very healthy dog.

Your pup doesn’t really need goat milk. If that currently makes a good portion of his diet, start weaning him off of it. If he really likes it you could use it as a small treat. A better option is a high quality puppy food formulated with all the protein and fat and vitamins he needs. Check the ingredients – you don’t want to see corn, by-products, wheat.. If your puppy food has any of these please consider shopping for a new food.

Why did you start giving him goat milk? A puppy should be weaned and eating solid food before you take him home. Good quality puppy food is all he needs to provide nutrition and calories. Excess calories, possibly from the goats milk, could cause the hyper activity you’re talking about. I’m not sure why people think that a dog being lean is a bad thing! Follow the feeding recommendations on your dog food bag for his age and weight, and that’s all he needs to be healthy.

Pups don’t need milk past 5-6 weeks, and that milk comes from their mother, ideally, or from puppy milk replacer. You can stop the goat’s milk today-totally unneccessary.
