Question by JP: What type of farming business does well in Utah and where area?
Tough economy. Heard farming can still be profitable….example I was given was goat farming and fine wool.
Can you help? Leave your own answer in the comments!
Because Utah has many different areas (mountains, deserts, rangeland etc) this is a difficult question to answer simply. Goat farming is generally a hobby in the US as there are not many outlets for goats except other hobby farms. Wool is also a dying industry in the US. Even the most successful farmers have bad years due to weather or commodity price difficulties. Farming takes a lot of skill and some luck, as well as a reasonable amount of capital if you want to become sufficiently profitable to pay yourself something during the start up.
