The opening at the bottom of the worm farm where I could theoretically harvest the vermicastings in about 3 months. Usually I take everything out and separate it all manually before putting the worms back in on some bedding of straw and torn up newspaper, and the rest of the food they haven’t eaten yet!
Question by JT: What to feed worms in a worm farm?
I bought the buckets, the peat moss, and figured out where to put them in my basement, but just before I went to buy them I thought to myself, What am I going to feed them…? My family doesn’t have a lot of leftover fruits and vegetables to feed them so my question is what do I feed 1 lb. of european night crawlers every day?

I raise Canadian night-crawlers at my home in BC. I raise my night-crawlers in a composter. For the healthiest worms I feed them equal mixtures of carbon and phosphorus materials. Carbon materials may include fruit peelings and cores, old veggies, old bread, a few used coffee grinds, crumbled egg shells. Phosphorus materials may include oil free used paper towels, dried leaves or dried clippings. Keep your feed mixture moist with water, not over watered. Feel free to email me for more info if needed. 40yr exp. Pacific Northwest guide

Depends on the kind of worms you want to raise. I raised worms for 5 or 6 years. I don’t remember the variety, they were about the size of regular garden worms. Larger than red (or manure) worms, smaller than night crawlers. They were the color of regular night crawlers and they had stripes on them. I fed them what is called chicken scratch which is mostly corn. I would pulverize it in a blender and spread it thinly on top of the bedding, adding more when that was all gone. If I ran out I would use corn meal, it worked just as good but more expensive. Call or visit wherever you are getting your worms and ask what to feed them.

Go to your nearest grocery store, talk to the produce lady and ask her if you can have the scraps and the stuff they throw away. Make an appointment to pick it up once a week.
You can also feed cricket food that you buy at a pet store. The type doesn’t matter.
Sprinkle a little fish food on top, granulated or flakes doesn’t matter.
Cereal, like corn flakes
