What should I breed my boer x goat with?

Question by Jack: What should I breed my boer x goat with?
I’ve got a boer x doe that we would really like to get kids out of to bottle feed. I was just wondering if it matters what we breed her with? We’re not stressed on having purebred babies but would it be better to breed her with a Boer buck or another type of buck? Would a multicoloured goat be more appealing to a buyer than a white goat with a brown/black head?

  1. since she is a x breed than you could go either way with this goat. if you would like to breed her boer than you can breed her boer. however if you know what she is crossed with(like if it is Nubian, Toggenburg, Sannan, Lamancha) if it is a dairy breed(of which all the breeds i just stated are) you could breed her dairy and work up to an American dairy goat that you could show. as for the buyer it depends on what you are going to sell them for. if you want to sell them for meat(like at an auction or boer goat sale) then breeding her boer would probably be the best idea as the babies will have more meat on them. if you want to be able to sell them as pets or as a milk goat then dairy goats would be the way to go. i find that dairy goats are much MUCH easier to train, bottle feed, and are friendlier. an example is i was training both a Pure breed Toggenburg wether and a boer wether for fair. the dairy was trained in 2 weeks to walk where as the Boer i worked with for 4 months and i still had to drag him in the arena. now you should know that each goat is different, but that is what i find happens the most. hope this helps
