Question by Goodgal: What perinnials should I plant and what looks nice together?.?
I live in zone 5 and the area has full afternoon sun. I am new to this but want to learn how to do this myself. The area is 26ft x 5ft right out my front door along home. what would be recommended to put with what? I’m looking for low maintenance that comes back yearly and some color wouldn’t be bad either. Oh, and the soil is pretty wet considering its full afternoon sun. Also any suggestions for partial afternoon sun to plant around my pool above ground.

  1. Let me get this straight: moist soil, afternoon sun? Ick. Hate that afternoon sun. What type of pool outside the front door?

Obedient plant (Phystostegia), Bee Balm (Mondarda), Columbine, Daylily, Dame’s Rocket (early spring biennial), perennial Hibiscus (H. moscheutos…iffy on hardiness),

I wouldn’t plant near the pool. Splashing and the need to move around the pool to clean it. You might consider raised containers…….big ones where you can cram a lot into them include some taller growing stuff.

  2. Roses are definitely a perfect flower that you can plant. They come in different colors which you can arrange them alternately in rows (choose 2 colors of roses, like red and pink probably). However, you need to know the proper way of caring for roses, so their blooms will look at its best. Roses are actually not that water loving plants (but take note that they still need water, but not that too much though).
