We had some ethical concerns about feeding the chickens their own hard-boiled eggs.

Question by Giachetta *Italian Chick*: What kind of rice should I feed my dog?
Okay so I took my pug to the vet because she had diareha and the vet said for me to feed her chicken, rice & low-fat yogurt for 3 days. I was wondering what kind of rice & do i grill the chicken or boil it?

  4. When my dog had diarrhea the vet recommended just good old plain white rice, steamed or boiled. As for the chicken you want boneless and skinless and boil it. Be sure to remove any fat before feeding it to her. The fat will not be good on her sensitive stomach. Also do small meals of this throughout the day to kind of let her stomach rest in between. At least that is what my vet said and it makes sense to me 🙂 and has always worked. I usually tried to do 4 meals a day.
Another tip is to add a little canned pumpkin pure (not the pumpkin pie mix)to the mixture a couple of times . It is full of fiber and most dogs seem to love it! This saved my dog from his extreme diarrhea! From what I remember my vet recommended a teaspoon for every 5 pounds the dog weighs.

Good luck, hope she feels better soon 🙂

  5. Actually, just regular white rice and boiled chicken, and the lo-fat yogurt is what you want. The vet has put the dog on a “bland” diet which means no grease, seasonings, and no red meat. Skin the chicken , and give the white rice plain. Good luck getting her to eat it. If not, try the internet to find other bland foods that are OK for a dog.. The main thing is to get all the yuk out of her system with natural, unseasoned, non greasy foods.

Based on your other question, you’ve probably been feeding her the wrong stuff to try to “fatten” her up. Back off and just concentrate on keeping her healthy. You don’t have to feed the bland diet forever, just til her stomach gets better.

  6. I have had this problem also. Boil some white rice and instead of using actual meat, we used baby food (chicken, beef)… much easier and our puppy seemed to like it more and was able to eat it easier. Otherwise, if you use actual chicken, grill it with no flavoring/seasoning. It should be as natural as possible. Our vet also recommended using hamburger, just make sure you drain as much grease as possible. As far as the three day rule goes, after the first serving of rice, our dog was plugged up for a few days right away. We have had this problem a couple times (she has a very sensitive stomach)and we have found its best to start transistioning back to their regular food one or two meals after you notice that they have not been pooping regularly. (We did rice for a day, second day, we gave half rice and baby food and half dog food and third day we did 3/4 dog food and 1/4 rice and baby food, day 4 she was back to her regular food)We have an English Bulldog and after one day of rice, she didn’t poop for a couple days, even after we got her back to her regualr dog food. As far as the yogurt goes, if your dog’s stomach is not used to something of that consistancy, it may take a bit to get used to and still cause a little bit of the runs… good luck!!! We stuck with rice and baby food/meat and it worked perfectly, just make sure to slowly transistion back to the regular dog food or you can have upset tummy again.
