Question by Dragonfly: What is better for an 8 month old at night: formula or cow/goat milk?
A baby who is breast fed, not sleeping through the night because she is not so much hungry, just likes to comfort feed. What would be better? Formula or milk in a bottle??
Thank you

  2. breastmilk. Goats and cows formula are equally carcinogenic, they both have casein, they are both too protein-heavy for human babies, they both have saturated fats instead of unsaturated fats like breastmilk, they can both cause formula-induced apnea. No such thing as comfort feeding.

And strictly NO milk that’s not formula until 12 months. It causes microbleeds in small intestines which don’t heal, so baby can get anemia and malnutrition, and in babies where they only get milk instead of formula or breastmilk, sadly many die. Just keep feeding. Lay her down and let her suckle and then both go back to sleep. Get a bedrail and put her between you and the bedrail.

  4. is breastmilk not an option?

whatever you decide, putting the baby to bed with a bottle is not a good idea. the sugar in the milk.formula/whatever, because it sits on their teeth and rots them.

  5. None of the above. You don’t want to start a bottle habit at 8 months. Give water in a sippy cup. Soon enough, she will get the message and stop asking to feed at night.

  6. Expressed breast milk, with formula a close second.

Never give an infant any kind of milk other than breast milk or formula until they are at least a year old.

  7. Comfort feeding at night is normal fir a baby this age. If s/he is breastfeeding for comfort, changing milks will not help. You will still need to comfort her.

It is not appropriate to give milk of another species before a baby is one. Breastmilk is the first choice, and formula is the alternative.
