You can just buy some seeds and you don’t need to buy grit, you can just use gravel that you find and wash and dry it. That sounds pretty cheap to me
You do need to provide some type of chicken feed, but if you free range them & provide treats as an extra that should help to cut down on your feed bill. Also, usually if they’re free ranged they won’t need any additional grit as they’ll pick up pebbles & tiny rocks from the yard. But if your property only has soft rocks or none at all, you might still need to provide grit.
