Question by Cande88: What do you think will happen to me and my job?
I am a young African female and last year September I got a job with this company, I noticed that I was the only black person then I noticed that I was not given much work to do by my manager. So that made me really uncomfortable because I get paid every month and getting paid for doing nothing is nothing I enjoy since I am still young and just started with my career and still need to build it. So now suddenly my manager resigned from her job, I was not told about this, I even assume that she quit, so now since she is not here and she is the one who was giving me work to do I haven’t done anything, and I mean anything at all since the beginning of the year.I am very uncomfortable about the situation, I just find it hard to tolerate coming to the office and doing nothing the whole day. Nobody has told me anything yet, I have no idea what is happening. I have a feeling that they will keep me even if there is nothing I do because of the BEE staff, so what might happen to me from now on?
Give your answer to this question below!
This is a case where you should’ve stepped up earlier and said something about it, because now when the new manager comes in, (s)he will be expecting you will do the work (s)he gives you like anyone else, but since you didn’t gain any experience or any attributes like becoming resistant to stress.
This will really be noticed unless you got for it a 110%, you could be lucky though that the new manager will be relaxed, but don’t count on it.
My 2 cents.

I really hope you are being honest with your question as this is something quite unheard of! Firstly, your previous boss, did in fact report with someone else? Schedule a meeting with that person and discuss your concerns ASAP. Then you also surely have an HR person or an HR department? You can discuss your concerns with them as well.
You should also have a contract of employment in place. In the contract it will clearly stipulate your duties as an employee of the company. If not, I recon you discuss this with a manager or someone at HR. One can not do a job without a clear description of responsibilities.
As for the BEE/AA thing. It will be idiotic for any company just to employ someone to make “BEE targets”. If you really feel that this was the only reason you were employed you can probably go raise your concerns with the CCMA, however I would only advice this if you get fired all of a sudden.
Be proactive if you really want this job. Show them that you are keen to start taking on certain responsibilites. Good luck.

I think you should talk to the manager and tell him how you feel. Everything will be ok.

I suggest that you talk to the relevant person at the company where you work and ask for your job description and from there you can able to ask more clarity regarding your role in the company.
