Is it better to feed chickens a layer feed with copper or without? What’s a good level of protein too?

Copper is an essential mineral in very small amounts. Chickens do not need extra copper as a nutritional supplement, apart from what will be blended into a normal good- quailty layer feed as a matter of course.
Layers need a higher level of protein than growers, as they have to maintain their own bodies and also have enough spare for making eggs. Usually a layers feed will contain around 18% protein but this does vary a bit because some of the better protein sources are more easily assimilated by the hens, so a slightly lower level is satisfactory. Quality counts – cheap feed is generally a false economy in the long run.
