Knowledge on the different types of bees that will be living or working in the different parts of the hive.
Will you be making the hive from scratch? If so, its very important to get the measurements for the hive correct so that you can use the standard size frames and spares for the hive system you select. This may be Langstroth or National or a different type of hive system.
If you are building the hive from a flat-pack kit, then its fairly easy. All you need is a hammer, some nails (usually supplied), some glue (usually supplied) and perhaps a craft knife to clean up some of the rough edges of the wood.
