Question by Guardian Demon: What are the easiest (for beginners, at least) types of farm animals to raise/vegetables to grow?
My family and I are half-way through buying a large amount of farm land (about fifty acres) and we plan too use it. What vegetables, fruits, and animals do you think we should start with?
We live in Oregon, so north-west climate.
(Obviously, once we know what animals and plants we’ll be starting with we’ll do the appropriate research, go too other farms for some hands-on experience and tips, etc.)

Chickens are relatively simple to take care of. Same with guinea pigs- yes they are technically considered livestock. Some people do eat them- but please don’t I love those little animals. Then carrots, peas, potatoes, strawberries. I’ve been growing all of those with my mom in our garden since I was a little girl. They are very easy to take care of.

this may not be a traditional farm crop, but mushrooms grow well in your climate and are very easy to start up, look after & harvest. you only need old wood which you can get free from neighboring farms (storm-felled trees) or wood off-cuts from nearby lumber mills, and mushroom spawn from established growers in your area. fresh mushrooms, being organic, command high prices and are in great demand in hotels & restaurants everywhere, as well as in local fresh foods markets. good luck

See what goats are appropriate for that climate they are good lawnmowers.

Guinea fowl for meat, eggs and bug control. Potatoes are an easy crop.

I would do it the other way.
Before I got ANYTHING, except chickens or ducks, I’d visit other people who have different animals and ask loads of questions. I did, and never had a regret. I knew what I was getting into.
One caution on any animal is to make sure you have a large animal vet that makes farm calls. Dog and cat vets know virtually nothing of any farm species.
Goats are not easy, nor are Guinea fowl.
As far as the veggies, all are easy. If you don’t know anything about them, the backs of the packages and a good gardening book will tell you pretty much all you need to know.
Potatoes are not easy, but popular. For me, there’s way too many bugs, and far too much labor, and they’re really cheap in stores.
