the chances that your going to get the bird flu from back yard chickens are prob 0%. just make sure you get them from a decent place such as the tractor supply store, they are very picky about getting healthy birds. if you keep your backyard chickens happy, clean and healthy you wont get sick in any way.
There is more than one type of avian flu, some of which have already made their way to the US. The key is to not allow your chickens to roam/interact with wild ducks/geese.
H5N1 is the really bad Asian strain that has crossed the species barrier at different points.
there is no chance of you getting it

Unless you live in Asia, you don’t have to worry about it.
However, you can get other things from chickens in the united states. They can carry lice, ticks, and a whole variety of bacteria and diseases.
However, I have had chickens my entire life and I haven’t ever had anything.

Avian flu is mainly present in China and some other asian countries at the moment, maybe in some others, not sure.
But, due to its deadly nature, there would be a warning that the Avian flu has entered the country.
So, you won’t get the Avian flu.
