Giselle takes a journey to Northern California to visit Melinda Stone’s homestead and talk to her about what homesteading is. When she returns, she uses a video from www.howtohomestead.org to teach Vinvin how to make a vermicompost bin to show people that urban homesteading is possible and totally awesome!… You’ll also find questions and comments from seesmic users. Enjoy!
Great video!

Yeah, homesteading is a great way of life. However, the whole humanure movement (no pun intended) is, IMHO, absolutely disgusting. I’d say if there was an area where interrupting “the cycle” was a GOOD thing, that would be it.
I do just fine with compost. *urp* If disposing of waste is the issue being avoided, there are far more sanitary ways, like an efficient outhouse design or burning. Just my own opinion of course, we’re all free to do as we like.

how would it be devistating? I think the real devistation was the industrial revolution when people left the agrarian way of life to move to the city.

How inspiring! I love when she talks about the interdependence of the city and the country. I am a total city girl but am intrigued on how to live like a homesteader. Thanks!
