New guests of The Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in early June of this year were two notable queens. While they may not be of the royal lineage, their journey is unique. The queens hail from Italy with one raised in Kona Hawaii and the other in Santiago Chile. Their subjects have had an equally notable journey, travelling around the globe from their home of New Zealand to join the queens  here in Vancouver. Today the honey bees are the newest rooftop guests of The Fairmont Waterfront’s culinary team. – read more at www.urbanmixer.com

  9. I swatted a wasp once.

It had flown down the front of my dress and stung my breast. My breast swelled up horribly.

I spent the rest of the day looking for another wasp to sting the other breast.

  10. It made me feel better to understand that once stung by a honey bee, the bee dies (because in pulling away from the stinger embedded in your flesh, it pulls out part of its internal organs and dies).

I have to chuckle at your question, because I don’t think you remembered that little fact associated with honey bees (I raised bees for a while as a kid).

As to killing one, well . . . it sure made me feel better about being stung. It didn’t help the hurt, but I knew the thing wasn’t going to do it more than once (unlike wasps, which can sting repeatedly).

    Edit: Chicky Cupcake… LOL!

  12. I’ve never killed a bee, but I’ve killed a spider.

I used to take jars with little holes poked inthe lid, and catch bees, put flowers in the jar, and then watch them move around. Then I’d take them back outside, open the lid, and run like hell. LOL

  14. Yes. It was a mercy killing so I am sure the bee did appreciate it.

  17. I once nursed a bee back to health. It landed on the railing of my porch and seemed totally exhausted. I went into the kitchen and got a big drop of honey on the end of a toothpick, and offered it to the bee. The bee drank all the honey, seemed to recover, and flew off.
