Question by Imran H: Should illegal immigrants be allowed into Canada?
I’m writing an essay for school and I’m going against that illegal immigrants should not bee aloowed into a country. What I don’t understand is that many people have been saying that illegal immigrants do not pay taxes? Is that true? and also I just want to know why illegal immigrants are a bad thing? I mean do not help out the economy and erase the jobs that we don’t want to work in. Thanks

Canada should be the land that lets a mutlicultural variety of people enter 🙂 I believe that they should, these people just want to live their lives… I came from a country that was formerly broken up (USSR), and the conditions became unbearable! If illegal immigrants come to Canada there is a good reason, with this they bring a high sense of moral values 🙂

Which additional laws do you prefer that people be allowed to ignore?

In more practical terms- assume Canada suffers high unemployment and no free trade. If a job that aligned with your skills came up across the border, would you consider working for the employer without a work permit to feed your family?
A good country to compare illegal status and treatment is UK, where refugees and illegals even get a free government home with furniture. They also get free university education.
Just a thought.

No.
Canada is a wonderful country with wonderful people and I hate seeing them be the doormat to the worlds problems. Canadians are usually the first to help others no matter how it might affect them later.
There are laws and all should follow these laws.
Illegal immigration is a bad thing. The taxes are not being paid and that is true. And those jobs would be filled by Legal Residents no matter what they say. For example Bus Boys and Construction Laborers could be filled by Students like they were 25-50 years ago. The Jobs are there and the Legal People are there to fill them.
Hope this helps!

If illegal immigrants are allowed across our borders, we might as well just open the doors of all our prisons and jails and let those criminals go, too, because that is the message we are sending.

You are really uninformed about illegal immigration. Many illegals take jobs away from Americans. Jobs that Americans want and illegals have without doubt put many American people out of business with the ability to work for less money. Many Americans are not wealthy people who hire outsiders to do their chores for them and in fact many are poor but can’t find work because illegals have them already. Also illegals come here and have children who through a warped law automatically become US citizens entitled to American benefits that Americans have to pay for through taxation. Billions of dollars are spent providing health and other services to illegals which only serves to drain the economy. Many illegals live in groups and send the money they earn back home where they can purchase huge tracts of land and houses. The first generation of illegals are the only ones that will work menial jobs for menial pay but it’s guaranteed that they are not going to raise their children to clean houses and work long hours in fields picking vegetables which the majority of illegals don’t do anyway. Many are in the construction industry and are monopolizing certain trades formerly held by legal American citizens of all cultures and heritage. You just don’t understand the word “illegal”. I guess you think if enough people rode around without a drivers license that would make it OK even though it is illegal. The laws of a country designate what is legal and what is not and for some strange reason the only people that want to ignore those laws are illegals. It is just not fair to all the immigrants that come here and work to become citizens. ILLEGAL = NOT LEGAL! Legal immigration helps control the rate at which a country can grow without affecting it’s economy in a negative way. You can’t have people just walking in and setting up house. No other country allows it without keeping a check on it. Why should we?
