feeding chickens at home
Question by Michael: Should I just feed my dog human food instead of dog food?
Like, I don’t trust any brand of dog food anymore. The ones I do, my dog doesn’t like. So am I just better off feeding him chicken and vegetables, and whatever I eat? Yes, yes, I know, don’t give him chocolate, dairy products, grapes raisins, etc. I know, I’ve done my research, oh and please don’t suggest beneful or pedigree or any other food with by-products.
Money is not a huge deal to me, my dogs health doesn’t have a pricetag.
Give your answer to this question below!

Cooked potatoes and carrots are good! And another good thing to do is mixing the good dog food with some vegetables so your not using too much of your own food. My dog will not eat any dog food plain so I mix it will vegetables and she eats it right up!

Our vet recommends 1/3 meat, 1/3 starch such as rice, and 1/3 complex carbohydrates like beans or pumpkin. But this may not provide adequate vitamins or minerals, or probiotics. So you will need to supplement the cooked food diet.

there is something like this out there, it is called a “raw food diet” it is all natural and im sure it is better then the chemical laden foods of beneful etc. there is recipes out there that can be done but it is more expensive.

While you can manage a good diet yourself, it is difficult and if you don’t get it right, the problems may not show up until it is too late.
I see no logical reason not to trust commercial dog foods. There has never been a problem with the high volume dry kibbles produced by the majors in their own factories. I paid close attention a few years ago when there was all the trouble. I was feeding one dog Pro Plan Chicken and rice and the other Iams regular lamb and rice. Neither has ever been recalled.

Your dog is trying to control what you feed him. My vet said this. You need to stick to a dog kibble so he doesn’t get sick and he will eventually get hungry and used to his food. Don’t feed him human type food. Ask your vet. They will go the opposite way and try to sell you their prescription food.

You can definitely homemake your dog’s food. But it needs to be balanced, otherwise you can cause some serious irreversible damage to your dog’s health. Just chicken and vegetables is very unbalanced. One big thing it would be missing is calcium and your dog could end up with bone deformities among other things. I homemake my dog’s food following a recipe book written by a vet and a nutritionist. It is AAFCO approved and really well balanced, so you know for sure your dog is getting everything it needs. Its more work and more money than buying a bag of kibble but it is worth it. My dog’s health is 100 time better on the homemade diet, she was having some horrible health problems that completely resolved with the better diet. Here is the recipe book I use.

I would like to “thank you” for so much being concerned about your dog’s health. They give us so much happiness so it becomes our duty to take care of their health. Dogs do need balanced diet; there are various packaged food brands available like Royal Canin, Denes etc. However, home food is best but due to time constraints people they usually resort to packaged food. Good brand dog food they claim to be fresh and healthy for the pet.
Nothing wrong with homemade dog food but it’s imperative that you understand dog nutrition if you are doing this without help. just learn how to make good recipes that are balanced and healthy for dogs. best of luck.
