  3. Especially when most members of Congress, FDA, EPA, and even the American Supreme Court have ties to big and powerful food companies, resulting in decisions going in the food industry’s favour.

For example, according to the documentary, Food Inc., Chief Justice Clarence Thomas, Donald Rumsfeld, John Ashcroft, Mickey Kantor, Margaret Miller (FDA), Michael Taylor (FDA), Linda Fisher (EPA), and Robert Shapiro have previous or current affiliation with Monsanto.

  4. First, you’ll have to take the power away from Swift (now JBS USA owned), Smithfield, Cargill, and Tyson (oh dear).

These packers have so much power they even control congress and influence their decisions on food policy.

  5. Depends if they are corn, soy, barley, or grass fed.

If pigs are grass fed, you get same Omega-3 fatty acid levels as fish.

  6. Simple. It cost less to eat industrial food. People can say what they want, but in the end when money is wasted on electronic gadgets, and big houses with big mortgages and property taxes (stuff other people can see and someone thinks other people care about – that itself, I don’t know why), then when those folks get to the grocery store, they want salatin quality products, but they put their cutoff at 1/3rd the cost and they buy crap.

  7. Go ahead, it’s still America. Pigs have been used for thousands of years “Remains of pigs have been dated to earlier than 11,400 BP in Cyprus that must have been introduced from the mainland which suggests domestication in the adjacent mainland by then.” BP means before present day.. Look up Pig Toilets ” goaguide org/pigtoilets” if you really want to be sick.

  10. Yes, mostly for loans and respect. I would never be able to get a loan without a degree. I am also doing internships at farms, but I think school is more for the business aspect of farming (marketing, accounting, mamagement). Plus, it is rather hard to just go out and start a farm. I am using this school time to plan out what I want to do and test different ways of raising animals

  11. thats interesting, i’m curious about your reasoning for going to school first, there are plenty of readily available resources out there that explain in detail how to farm sustainably. So, is it just for grant and loan availability and offers after you get the ‘credentials’. i am interested to hear your reasoning.

  13. indeed. so, we have to start over from our roots, like joel is doing here. and it seems like a good idea to major in less resource intensive perennial plant systems, these also have less harsh regulations. We all need to come together to work through this as communities if we want to get past this issue. Like Joel has said, ‘picketing’ will really get us so far or even know where. we have to make our own structure again.

  15. huge corporations want huge corporations, and since they have the money to pay people(lobbiests) to get what they want(or put money in politicians pockets), they run everything. Truth is, there really isn’t so much a ‘government’ anymore. corporate fascism.

  17. If anyone is dumb enough to continue to eat KD and think it’s actually food – you should be paying $3 more. Greed, in the grand scheme of things, really is only a minor aside to the real issue. Why is it that people will continue to beak-off over cheap food when they are too lazy to grow even a few tomatoes in a pot on their penthouse patio. If you have food on the table, you have many problems. If you have NO food on the table, you have only one problem.

  18. So that’s why Kraft organic mac and cheese is $3 more than Kraft mac and cheese? Wouldn’t Kraft be getting the same subsidies either way?

  22. if it makes your blood boil then learn about Agenda 21 and Codex Alimentarius. It’ll make boil even more. One thing you should understand is that this is a banking cartel take over of the society. What these so call government “officials” do is exactly what the Bolsheviks in Russia did-exterminating farmers. Why? Because farmer is the BIGGEST threat to a collectivists control freak society. Because they are independent.

  23. This is not about a desire to feed people. This is a chemical company (*cough* Monsanto) driven market to maximize profits while leaving the externalized costs to future generations and tax payers. There is nothing cheap about processed food or modern farming practices. Government subsidies conveniently *hide* some of the costs. Also, this is not socialism, it is unfettered capitalism (i.e. the wealthy corporations run our government).

  25. Eating is your most responsible thing you can do while you are alive.
We are all taught to work hard instead of to take care of ourselves.
I pay twice as much as most people do. Just to eat clean foods. I am 48 and I feel and look fantastic. You can too, if you can afford it.
The answer is simple. We all buy these clean foods from here on out and see what the big corporations do.
STAY AWAY FROM BIG COMPANIES THAT MAKE GARBAGE FOOD AND YOU WILL LIVE LONGER AND HEALTHIER.
