we just started with one tray layer – under that tray is a thin piece of material that lets moisture pass through, but not worms. the very bottom of the worm condo is a collection tray, with a spout, to collect worm tea. in the first layer, we added coir bedding, newspaper, some thin cut cardboard and sand.
Question by Korleone: raised bed and worm farm in one?
To set up for next year, I want to build a raised bed, 2m x 4m, fill it with compostable waste, shredded paper and brandling worms. Then, I will cover it with a sheet that will allow water and air through, insulate the soil but prevent light penetrating. The idea being to prepare the ground for next year by preventing weeds and enriching the soil with worm poop.
Do you see any flaws to this plan?
Any advice from those of you who have experience with wormeries would be valued.

all sounds good but covering it not much use-any weed seed there are still going to survive and germinate next season its not going to get hot enough to destroy seeds-with fall coming on would pour the leaves to it and stir it ever so often-unless it freezes in area worms will stay warm enough to be active
