Rabbit Raising Part 2, survivalist, homesteading food storage

Part 2 of our new series on raising rabbits. This series has been in the works for six months as we have tried to capture video of kits at various ages and stages of growth. This new series is about raising rabbits for MEAT, ie, to EAT. Be forewarned that we will discuss rabbit raising in that format and later videos will show some butchering – with a warning before it actually comes up. So for the PETA crowd, men of the other gender and the “we won’t eat anything with eyes” crowd, you’ll probably want to skip these videos. 1. Only have noticed that with 1 or 2 that were loaded during the time we had to make 6 to 10 attempts to upload a single video.

  6. We have never greatly increased the amount. Their is a risk if they get too fat they won’t conceive next time around.

  10. The act of breeding causes ovalation in the doe. It may only take a couple of seconds, but it’s done. No need to let them stay together any longer. If you don’t believe it, give it a try and see if she doesn’t kindle in 30 days. Leaving them longer just stresses the female. I breed on the first of the month, 30 days later she gives birth, 30 days later the young go to a different cage. I stagger two does, breeding each every four months, one with babies, one without. Average of 40 babies year.

  11. A great book on all things for the little farmstead if you can find a copy (maybe on ebay) is called: The Manual of Practical Homesteading, by John Vivian. I’ve been reading my copy regularily since the early 1980’s. A great how to book. He lived the lifestyle, didn’t just research and write about it like a lot of writers. The only major problem I ever had with rabbits, was when a bull snake ate all my newborn babies one day. I think it was nine of them, all inside the snake when I cut it open.

  22. When I have a doe that is ready to breed I usually put her in with the buck every four hours and wait for the “action” then take her out. I had my big NZ doe attack my buck after a couple of sessions and dont like to leave her in with the buck for any length of time. I did witness her “pee” the semen out on her latest breeding but was able to have her bred three more times so hopefully it took. Find out in a couple of weeks. Cant wait for more videos.

  24. It’s talked about in the rabbit books. I’ve witnessed does pee right after the buck did his job and later they never conceived. May be a wives tale but I always rebreed if I see them pee not long after.

  25. Just encode the raw format that the cam records and encode with windows media encoder, sure you will get a final result of a file up to 300mb in size but quality there isn’t much that can match.
