Oh, thank you so much, Katz, I can’t believe I was dumb enough not to etch a line. Into trifocals nowadays! Blessings to you and yours
So glad your garden is doing well! When we can, we just add 1 gallon of water.

This is a great site for all pressure cooker/canner parts. It looks like that series goes from 0178001 to 0178006, they’re all 22 qt. canners.
Sorry can’t insert a clickable link, just Google Pressure Cooker Outlet,.
Just use sme canning lids strapped together with some bare wire for the bottom rack and then use your existing rack for the top layer. Katz is correct about the H2O level not being an exact science. To get the H2O level for the strapped lids; put the original rack in the bottom and fill with 3qts H2O (recommended by Presto for canning). Note the water level on the jars. remove the rack and place the lids in the bottom. Add more qts of H20 until u reach the desired level again.
I should say that the # is 017800, the extra 0 has a little space before the last 0. It is a little worn and hard to see. I can only find # that have an additional 1,2,3 or 4 on the end. Maybe I just can’t see it.
Just the information I was wanting today. I bought my canner from a yard sale for $5. It only has one rack and I need another one to double deck pints. I still can’t find a manual for it online, but I believe I can double deck pints in it. It’s an old Presto with model number 01780 stamped in the bottom. Only Google reference I can find is that Sears once had it and it’s 22 quarts.
The instructions that came with my canner simply says, “fill with 3 quarts of water”. I use a 1 quart measuring cup three times and it’s done. You know how deep the water needs to be, figure out what that is using a measuring cup. Simple.
Hate that wire basket too! I used a large wooden spoon and marked the tip end with a perma marker with the line where my water needs to be and when I fill it I just put the spoon in to verify I have it. I am too chicken to etch on my canner 🙂

Does the line apply if you are stacking the jars?
See this is why I need someone to teach me. Every time I see a new video by ya, it shows me something else I dont know to do. I really think thats why I havent started to learn this skill yet because i dont want to kill my family!!!
Why not take an indelible marker and place a nice sized line on the inside of the canner? One big old fat line encircling the entire interrior perimeter of the canner? Or would the line wear off after a few uses?

I think it probably would, but not a bad idea. The little etched line on the outside works so well.
