These are part of the display to raise funds for Claire House Children’s Hospice sponsored Duck Race in association with Radio City’s Cash for Kids. In total there are 40,000 blue rubber ducks throughout the museum. Well worth a look while they are still there.

This picture doesn’t do any justice to how many tiny, blue plastic ducks there were scattered throughout the museum. It was impressive. The urge to dive on top of them was massive!!

Question by emily: Questions about raising ducks?
I’m getting ducks within a few weeks, and have a few questions:

1. How much on average does it cost to raise them per month?
2. What do I feed them? And how much?
3. How do I deal with all the poop?!

Thanks in advance!

One Response to Questions about raising ducks?

  1. 1) If you buy feed in bulk and give them bird friendly scraps it should be $ 5-10 per month per duck. Get organic feed, especially if they’re being raised for their eggs or meat.

    2) They should have a mash specifically for ducks, not the kinds for “all” fowl. Those don’t meet their nutritional needs and dirty their water quickly.

    3) If you have a pond you can get some algae/waste eating fish. Otherwise, the only thing you can do is frequently change their bathing/feeding water and either put straw down in their pen or rake it out every other day, to prevent flies and smell.

Ducks make great pets, and I have 2 Peking ducks of my own. My animal rescue houses 5 assorted ducks, and a couple of them love to come in my office and sit on the desk when I’m trying to work.

    good luck
