Start slow. Get a solar panel kit and experiment with it. Get used to the idea that you will have less power. Also if you live in a cold climate, make sure you can handle the cold.
Learn about the old ways and simple living. Get used to using a lot less water for everything.
I live close to the New Madrid Fault and I believe in being prepared for natural disasters. We also live right in the middle of Tornado Alley, so being prepared is logical. I am a retired disabled USMC veteran who appreciates what you are posting for folks to learn.

I use a product called Spectracide ‘Bug Stop’ spray it around my camp, twice a year. It can be effective, ticks are on it’s list.
