John from www.growingyourgreens.com goes on a field trip to Rick and Karin’s place to share with you the No-Build Square Foot Raised Bed Garden. In this episode, you will learn how Rick and Karin have progressively expanded their garden by building out a new raised bed each year for the first and second year. For the third year, they decided to do a no-build raised bed garden. In this video learn more about this zero construction garden and how you can make one too.
great video, lovely garden. didn’t the black mortar mixing tub just create more heat for the seedlings though?

I found that you can get pre-assembled garden beds from certain company’s for free. I got from a glass company a crate that they recieved glass shipments in and had set to the side of the building. I just went in and asked if I could have it and the boss guy gladly gave it to me to get rid of it.
I’ve gotten 2 so far this way and the grate lids are with it so I can make more if needed.

I have many videos that answer many common garden questions. I would encourage all my viewers to SEARCH my youtube channel for answers by using the search box on my channel page. In this case, the single stemming video can be found at

Thanks for the update! Where can I buy coarse vermiculite at a good price? What kind of camera do you use? I love the great sound. I can always hear you on your videos and I love the closeups and all the teaching too. I’m building a wheelchair accessible garden with 24″ high beds. We are doing lots of planning and it will be a dream come true for my best friend!

Hi John! I know this question is completely out of the subject, but how old are you?
I’m curious, because I never seen a person’s skin look so good. 🙂

We converted our back yard to all raised beds and great veggies. This is our third year too. Just one thing John, probably others have recommended it also, and I know you are not getting paid to do this and I’m sure most of us super appreciate this videos…..but could you invest in a wireless mic to record your videos as we miss some of what you say when you turn your head or walk too far from the camera.

Thank you so much for your videos. I have been watching for about year now and just have learned soooo much. We dug up our front yard last year and put fruit trees in last month. I just made up two new no dig no build garden beds using some of your methods. Keep sharing and I’ll keep watching♥

almost forgot trying arichoke for the first time, the plants are 4+ dollars so im goin with seed,.
note to all… if it has a thick husk you can stimulate by scuffing in a matchbook lined w/sandpaper for 40 to 90 seconds before planting this give it a head start, you will see a better sprout %..

Quote: The weather here in spring time has been extraordinary hot … *me jealous* Belgium moved to the rain forest on the north pole or something. Well, at least the shallots seem to like this weather and the Wisteria is flowering like mad.
PLEASE send us some sun 🙂

This is my favorite kind of video. DIY/low cost solutions to gardening. Not everyone has the time, energy, or money to build big raised beds and buy shade cloth etc. My solution to poor soil was to mix compost, topsoil, and sand to my garden beds and then cover with straw to prevent runoff and keep moisture. I plant cool weather plants in the shady parts of my house and heat loving plants in direct light. I also direct seed tomatoes, peppers, squash, etc.
