  1. The first thing to do is teach your son how to act around stinging insects. I’m only guessing here, but I know how young kids get when they see things like bees :P. It may not help this situation, but it’s a good skill to have (along with what to do about snakes).

Next thing, have you talked to your neighbor about this yet? The best solution is probably some sort of mutually agreed on compromise.

That may not work out, as people can be. . . selfish. Check your local zoning laws. I’m not sure if beekeeping is ever covered by zoning, but it’s possible. If it is, see if your area is zoned for bees. It may or may not be covered by permitting laws, so I’d check those too, and whether your neighbor has a permit if one is required.

Past that I’m not sure, but it’s a start.

  2. Let me see if I have this right. Your neighbor has been raising bees since before you moved into the area and you want him to stop because your son is ignorant enough to bother bees which you assume came from your neighbor. Guess what. The world does not revolve around you and your family. Even a six-year-old should be able to learn that you don’t bother animals that can defend themselves. If anything, you should apologize to your neighbor for your son killing three of “his” bees.
