25 Responses to My Cheap CFL Grow Light Fixture Results in Hydroponics (Lettuce and Beans)
I read in MAKE Magazine the heat kills CFL bulbs. Keeping a bulb pointed
down will shorten it’s life due to heat. It’s best to keep CFL bulbs
shining on side. I have never had a high powered CFL die for my plants. I
have a ceiling fan in my kitchen that has CFL bulbs pointed down and they
die every few months. I’d use a little fan if you have an expensive bulb.
You most likely have 90 days to return at these stores so HOLD THAT RECEIPT!
—-Help!!!—— Im using a 6500k 23 watt CFL to grow a single plant at
the moment is that adequate lighting? (it was the highest wattage full
6500K I could find or can I use the lower spectrum bulbs as well?) Im
growing Scarlett runners, peppers and tomato in a bubbleponic setup.

Hi , i am new to gardening and i just purchased Zoo Med Ocean Sun 10,000K
420 Daylight Bulb T8 32 Watts, 48-Inch and Zoo Med Ultra Sun Trichromatic
Super Daylight 6500K Fluorescent Bulb T8 32 Watt, 48-Inch for my t8 shop
light from walmart. I am starting seedling for my little garden which is
mostly heirloom veggies my veggies are becoming “leggy”? and i was told to
get a plant light which is to expenisve so i bought some pvc pipe and made
a stand will these bulbs work?
Is there any danger of starting a fire with these sorts of homemade lights?
Has it ever happened to you? I’d be reticent about leaving home with them
on…
doesnt the water evaporation endanger the bulb? im thinking on buying a big
cfl to grow as well and for aquarium use. but maybe protecting the lamp
with some plexiglass
@SleestaksRule 😀 That’s so good to know. Why is it that some t5 lights
online are so expensive? What makes one (4 bulb, 2′ T5 grow light) 150$ and
another one 350$?
@SleestaksRule I tried doing half the lumens but its only working out for
seedlings Im going to buy 2 more bulbs tonight. I’m using some ultra CLF’s
they’re a little smaller and output 1600 lumens each (23 watt). I’ll just
use 4 and get your output and hopefully a pretty harvest like yours!
@SleestaksRule well I bought extra bulbs so my total wattage will be 86,
and big time lumens 🙂 I’m using a bathroom beauty bar fixture lol so my
setup isnt as professional as yours.
Hey, SleestaksRule, can you help me? Im planning to plant lettuce indoors
too, with a small nft system, I want to ask how long these grow lights are
on. Is it on 24/7? 12 hours a day? Btw, those lettuce looks yummy. Good job
there, bro.

I thinks so, as long as they don’t get huge. I grew small dwarf tomato
plants under them and they produced.

Actually you can get a surprising amount of nutrition from eating
marijuana.
