Lancing a Cow Abscess – (Part I & II)

This video is a follow up to “Lancing an Abscess – Gallons of Pus.” This video shows the cow before and after the lancing. The really good news: She went up 25 lbs of milk, she was declared pregnant 12 days after, and most importantly she didn’t need any follow up care. She drained and healed on her own without having to be treated with antibiotics. She will turn 5 years old the end of October. For those of you who are interested in her genetics: She is a daughter of 11H5183 Timlynn Adam from a 7H5375 Bw Marshall dam. She is pregnant to 11H8195 Baxter. She is in her third lactation.

I am completely pro small independent farms, which have become almost extinct in this country. The profit margins on dairy farming are very low. The very same people who have written negative comment would have a cow if milk went up to $10.00 a gallon where it belongs! The only thing you should have done differently, was not to have lanced the abscess in your milking barn. The fluid in the abscess IS infected, thus the smell, and the definition of an abscess. Otherwise, happy c

  6. I do not understand, why the farmer lets the thing go this bad. Why he did not act sooner.
The poor animal must have been in tremendous pain for quite long time.

  7. Wow Emily. Your sheer ignorance amazes me. It’s apparent that you’ve never been on a ranch or in a barn. Cattle and barnyard animals eat and poop wherever they feel like. Do yourself a favor and stay in your city condo where you belong. Let the men do their job.

  12. Some of the comments on this video are hysterical, and clearly written by some ideological douchebags that do not know the first thing about farming or ranching. When they get 50 head of cattle and take care of them on a regular basis, then they might get a better idea of what in the fuck they are speaking about. Until then, some idiot trying to tell someone else how to best run their farm on their own private property can shut the fuck up.

  22. I was simply trying to stress the point to “bentleyb731” that this was not the correct or humane way to handle this kind of infection! The animal should have been separated and isolated from the other animals, in order to avoid spreading the infection to the other cows, and to avoid the risk of contaminating the milking equipment or any milk..The abcess should have been numbed and sterilized, and then lanced and treated by a qualified vet!! What was done on this video is totally wrong!
