Crunchy68 there is no such thing as humane torture. To kill something resisting death is to torture it. Yes, death comes to all of us, but to inflict it upon another being for selfish reasons that are unnecessary (read an unbiased book on nutrition), is heartless. It is not about projecting fears, it is about having empathy and compassion for other creatures that can feel pain and experience fear just as we can.
Death does come to us all. That doesn’t mean we have to murder things prematurely. I’d question your eyes, ears, and judgement if you think what’s going on in that video is “peaceful.”
They’re thrashing because bodies thrash due to neurological reactions at the time of death. It isn’t a resistance to death, it’s an effect of death. And yes, slitting the neck is humane compared to many other forms of death possible. I think you’re just objecting to the idea of death in general, rather than recognizing death comes to all of us. LOOK at how they hang quite peacefully and still for ten whole seconds while they bleed out. Stop projecting your own fears onto them.
Seriously? Slitting something’s throat is humane? Would you like having your throat slit? They’re thrashing because they don’t want to die. You can hear them screaming for God’s sake. They’re in a state of extreme panic, as you would be if you were hung upside down and slashed with a knife. Time to stop spouting meaningless excuses and start practicing the Golden Rule.
You can make any choice you want, of course, but it seems to me that the Polyface way of slaughtering chickens is very humane. They are handled without cruelty. Their necks are cut so they bleed out and die in about ten seconds, and they are calm during the bleed-out. Then the body begins thrashing AFTER DEATH, because it is natural for bodies to do that. These aren’t mistreated animals. This is what death looks like. At least at Polyface, on grass and sunshine, they had a good life.
Even if you’re against eating meat, farmers that let animals live naturally should never be the target of your philosophy. This is a man that is leaving the land better then he found it and providing pastured meat for consumers with a conscience. Your rage is better spent on the Big Ag companies that are not only abusing the animals, but the earth and the workers as well.
The meat industry is never going to go away, sorry.
Joel Salatin offers some of the best solutions on how to make the meat industry a more sustainable industry.
Why personally attack him in such an immature way?

Bob Jones University graduatates some “geniuses.” Joel is another obese grass-fed beef pusher. He’s a cruel man.
