Question by Cassy_supergirl: Is the cholesterol found in milk bad or good?
I have been wondering this questions for a while.
I drink 2% milk from naturel and was reading that there is 20 mg of cholesterol in every 250mL.
I drink a glass of milk every morning and night. Should I be concerned if it is not good for my health?
Does this apply to al dairy products such as yogurt and cheese too?
Please give me an anwer as I have been dying to know!
Thanks to everyone in advance! 🙂

Yes, all of dairy product cholestrol is a bad cholestrol, but the benefit from milk outweighs the amount of cholestrol. Goat milk’s cholestrol isn’t as bad as cow’s some claim.
Yes, milk cholestrol can clog up arteries, taken large amount daily.
Have you thought about drinking fat free milk and low fat cheese, non-fat yogurt ? Fat free milk only has less than 5 mg / cup. Insignificant as long as your cholestrol level isn’t high, and your HDL-good cholestrol level is high, LDL is low.
I have a high cholestrol level, inherited at around 200, but my HDL is high, because I exercise daily, and eat low fat diet, I’m not a vegetarian, but I eat fish and a small amount of natural beef once a week.
I also drink non-fat milk, soy-yogurts, low fat cheeses to provide calcium to my bone system
I’m a middle aged person, so I have to watch for every food I ingest, but minimum cholestrol intake a day ? I don’t mind, because the benefit is greater. If you are really concerned about milk cholestrol, you might condsider eating lots of dark green leafy veggies to provide calcium, and the veggie source is healthier, but you need to consume a potful per meal ? impossible isn’t it ? Sorry for a long winded answer.

Hi Cassy-supergirl,
The cholesterol found in food is dietary cholesterol. It is neither good or bad. When your body digests the food the liver packages the cholesterol into different forms, such as LDL and HDL. This is where the terms “good” and “bad” come into play. Typically LDL is considered “bad” and HDL “good”. Dietary cholesterol is found in most animal products.
It’s currently recommended, for individuals with normal cholesterol levels, to limit dietary cholesterol intake to 300 mg or less daily.
All the best,
