Question by Cosmic Ray: Is Permaculture a more sustainable form of ecological gardening than Organic Gardening?
Perhaps they are one and the same? Is Organic Gardening just one aspect of Permaculture?

  1. Permaculture IS organic gardening w/bells and whistles.

  2. There is a philosophical difference between the two. You might ask “What can I get out of this garden without using chemicals?” or “How can I work with nature, her land, her plants, her animals, her cycles, to feed myself and my community?” Masanobu Fukuoka’s book “The One-Straw Revolution” can give you a deeper insight into permaculture.

  3. Permaculture is modelled on natural ecosystems to create a more sustainable system of gardening, farming, agriculture and living. Organic gardening is an aspect of Permaculture but doesn’t require one to live a sustainable lifestyle, simply to grow and produce food in the most healthy way possible. Permaculture is less limiting then organic gardening because it implies a wider context of green sustainable living, whereas organic gardening is a specialist branch, if you like, of Permaculture.
