Here’s a cute shot of their manic rush to grab food. I like the serendipitous composition, with Louisa in focus in the back…
Question by Emo Flower Child: Is it safe to let a puppy eat chicken bones?
My mom said he might choke on them because they are small-but I’ve read a lot of reviews on the prey model diet and apparently, he would do fine. As long as I feed the chicken raw (uncooked), he won’t choke on the bones, correct?
Eeeek…way too many opinions. I trust Bells though. I’m still not sure, though. Wow. Okay.
What do you think? Answer below!
NOOOOOOOO!!!
Chicken bones are the ONE type of bone that is IN NO WAY OK to feed a dog.
They splinter inside the animal and cause MASSIVE INTERNAL INJURY AND DEATH!
Don’t do that.

A dog can potentially choke on any bone, just as wolf can choke on one in the wild. There is always some risk, as they can splinter, and that’s true for a puppy or an adult dog. Many people let their dogs have bones anyway, but if you really want to be sure you are not providing a choking hazard, skip the bones altogether.
Cooked bones can be more of a problem, and that’s where you’re mother’s advice comes into play… it would not be wise to give a puppy, or any dog, a chicken bone from a cooked chicken. But that’s not what the raw diet calls for. I’ve included a link to a page that discusses the issue and mentions the natural diet you are speaking of.

True, uncooked bones will not splinter like the cooked ones. Alot of folks are turning to more natural diets for their dogs (Prey Diet) to reduce obesity and tooth decay.
Throw your dog uncooked meat, on the bone, and let him gnaw away. He’ll be just fine. Just give him a variety.
Here’s a website that explains these issues:

He could choke they splinter, regardless cooked or not. Just go to the pet store, get him a kong or one of their chew bones which are deemed safe. Why risk it if you love your dog.

dogs are basic scavengers, humans have ruined them,a dog dosen’t need dog foods.you need them because we are lazy,a dog is a hunter and has been eating bones since the beginning of time that said yes chicken bones from a early age is safe.

If the bones are small he could choke. Cooked bones can splinter and harm your dog .Raw bones are safe depending on the bone.Drumsticks, whole chicken or wings are safe. But not weight bearing bones, like femurs from cows, pigs, and other large animals can crack your dogs teeth.be careful thoe because feeding large quantities of bone can cause constipation.

it can be raw or not but dont feed the dog the whole bone look at the bone see where it looks like a jointy should be there its round and smooth break those off and feed the dog that dont give the dog any other part doe to it can break off sharp and get lodged in the dogs throat or anywhere else and could lead to death.

Even raw bones are still small and, though less likely, can splinter and snap.
It would be best to get your puppy bones and/or chewtoys that are designed/approved by vets for the puppy’s size, age and breed. Safety first, especially with something precious as a puppy, they are living animals after all.

Dogs now being highly domesticated and spoiled by humans find real danger to their health from human foods, cooked or raw, Raw you can give your dogs disease, such as food poisoning, parasites, that’s why we eat cooked meat. Better to get our “pets” foods and toys that are designed for them and are safe for them. That’s why we got them, to pamper and love.

Yeah, a sharp edge on an uncooked bone won’t do as much damage as a sharp edge on a cooked bone…..
A dog could choke on a piece of meat or anything that goes down the wrong way, as could we with anything we eat. The risk is fairly minimal…
It is fine to fed the dog uncooked bones.
I have fed my dog cooked chicken bones all his life, surprisingly enough, he hasn’t dropped dead or required any medical aid. Either it is a bunch of hysterics about what *may* happen or we have been REALLY lucky in beating the odds for 11 years!!!
There again, it is a personal choice kind of thing..

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOO!!!
The chicken bones have little splinters in them, and the dogs can choke on them. If they swallow them without chocking, well…they are gonna get sick.
If you want to give your puppy have chicken…peel off the skin and meat and throw the bones away!!!
