If I were to smoke a cigar around a beehive or a swarm of wasps, would I be relatively safe?

Question by losingfaithinus: If I were to smoke a cigar around a beehive or a swarm of wasps, would I be relatively safe?
Like if someone stumbles upon an active beehive, could you take out a pack of smokes and light up to keep them away?
