Question by Thador: If I want to cross a Nubian dairy goat with a Boer meat goat, what happens to the dairy production of kids?
I know that the Boer cross will result in a more meaty carcass, but I don’t know if milk production will decline from the Nubian side as a result of the cross. I know that it is done all the time, just wondering what happens to milk production.

The milk production of the offspring, if female will decrease a lot.

over time if from every crossing you breed the best milk producers you would end up with a good meat animal that is also a good milker. but this will take several generations to come into place.

We have several Boer/Nubian crosses. Like someone already mentioned if you continuously breed great dairy milkers to boers, your milk production continue to be good. Now obviously the udders are going to be slightly smaller (sometimes not even noticeably smaller), but when it comes to how much milk they produce, it’s still pretty much the same. Honestly, unless you pay thousands of dollars for outstanding genetic boers, the best boer goats are those that are nubian/boer crosses. This has to be the best combination of goats I have seen yet, especially when it comes to the shape, size, and quality of the udders. (I wouldn’t worry about a thing if I were you!)
