Question by Donna B: i have a boston terrier that i have been feeding canned diamond chicken and rice dog food.is it a good food?
i have a 4 year old boston terrier that i have begun to feed diamond chicken and rice canned food.she seems to like it,but the recall scares me.i would really hate to be doing her harm.any opinions or recomendations of something better?

I have poodles and a foxie i will not feed them ANY tin foods only fresh, they get chicken wings and necks,mince,steak ,sometimes raw sometimes cooked,veges, dry food, i buy specials and mark downs for the amount they eat i think it is cheaper than buying tins which are full of rubbish.

Diamond isn’t the best food by a long shot. For an easy food you can pick up at the pet store, try Blue Buffalo. I’m not saying it’s the end all be all in dog food but it’s way better than Diamond.
Raw and barf diets are great, but not until you’ve researched them so you know how to feed balanced for the dog’s needs.

That’s the brand of food that was having problems with killing dogs last year from having a bad chinese product in it. Using any of the well known brand names are actually the best. It’s what we were recommending our clients at the vet office last year, if you don’t want to make the switch to natural foods at the grocery store.

It will be better if you prepared the food yourself, it’ll take longer and probably will be a little bit tiring for you but believe me at least you’ll know what your pet is eating.
I have in all 6 dogs, and I prepare rice,with slices of carrots and some mince meat (not much) and cook it all together as if you were making dinner for yourself, I also put a little bit of oil and a dash of salt. Usually prepare it in the mornings and feed it to them in the afternoons.
P.D: DO NOT feed him chicken bones!! they choke to death and it is the most dangerous for dogs.

Diamond isn’t the best but its not the worst. Try Canidae or Blue Buffalo. Also canned dog food can cause dental problems. Dry kibble helps remove some of the tarter build up .

the barf diet is best, if you can commit to it. i can not, so i feed solid gold. i feed the dry, but they do sell canned. check the ingredients, you can see the difference between it and..diamond. i would not feed diamond personally. try the solid gold, or even Merrick canned foods, they are a lot better in quality. please stay away from alpo, ol-roy, and other lower grade canned foods. good luck.
