  1. I would lose the canister filter if it were me. Just add the media to the HOB refuge.

  3. NO. Absolutely not. A UV sterilizer can only affect the free floating life that passes through it, not the live that lives on the sand bed and on the surface of everything in the tank. It is perfectly safe to add a UV unit if you wish to.

Another question i am looking at transfering all the water as well 200L ( sorry we work in Lt ) to the 6 footer ( witch should hold around 650L ) and over a couple of weeks top up the tank with new water ? I hope this makes sense.
    Thanks again

  6. If it’s a shallow sand bed in the old tank, and you want to achieve a deep sand bed in the new tank, I would add all new packaged live sand to the new tank first, and then add the shallow bed in your old tank on top. Good luck.

  13. Reefs do best in open tank settings with no hood. As for the rock, 1 pound per gallon would do just fine. The sand can be calculated by using a online Deep Sand Bed Calculator. If you Google this, you will find it. Good luck.

  14. If you are going to go with dry rock and dead sand, I recommend you stick to a shallow sand bed.

Starting new tank, 50gal breeder startn fresh no live rock or live sand, but 50lbs of pukani dead reef rock from brs and 4 – 30lbs bags of aragamax sugar sized oolite sand, i think at moment two bags gave me ruffly 1 and half inches what to do?? Your opion leave the 1and half inches or put all four bags in i dont think it will give me 4 inches and money wise i dont plan for more money in it. I also have hob refugium cpr large, also reef octopus skimmer, led lighting vertex.. Thank you in advan

  17. Should be fine so long as your fish or other animals in the tank don’t prey on the plants.

  20. Ok thanks I will try to read through the comments to find similar questions and answers instead of bothering you. Thanks for all the info. I now have a four inch deep sand bed but I dont have enough right now for all the rock I need. I will be slowly adding rock over time. Your videos are great keep it up. You basically got me into the hobby with your beautiful 90 Gallon tank.
