We milk 7 goats each day, a very small operation and its for our personal consumption. Seven goats are a bit much for us to milk by hand so we invested in a portable milker. The pump cycle rate is a bit high in this video (little hands had been messing with the controls) so I advise turning the rate lower. See more about our homesteading at www.humblegarden.com We bought our milker here http
Awesome! to clean before milking i use hot water with a super tiny bit of dish soap. After milking, to suppress mastitis, i use a dilute solution of betadine liquid (not surgical soap) in water. I dont claim this is the best – am sure there are other more ecofriendly solutions
I recently learned that some ppl are allergic to bleach – trying to use it less.

thanks for the video.. I watched this like a year ago and wanted that milker.. I just got it.. I can’t weight to use it this spring… what kind of tite dip is the one you use? I used bleach and dawn with water last year after hand milking… and sometimes bagbalm… looking so forward to my Serge milker…

i would never cut an animal’s ears! this is a breed that has no outer ear flaps – they are called LaManchas

sorry i didnt make that clear – you stop when the milk stops coming out
you do not let the claws stay on the teats long after that because you want to get on to the next goat!
and also because the claw doesnt hold onto the teat once the udder is empty – it will often drop off and if you are not there to catch it – you can contaminate the lines – yuck!

How interesting that is, saving enough to have a steady daily free ration of fresh milk.
Goats can be fed w/ any abundant grass grown in the rural or suburban area.
And, 1 purely bred boer-type goat can produce 3-4 liters of milk a day.

Plus, I think, if you want to use a gadget, by all means, use a gadget right? Some people like machines and there’s nothing wrong with being a bit nerdy! (like me)
