Good video on a great recipe. However, you should not recommend using the home depot buckets as fermenters or anything homebrew related. Those buckets are not food grade plastic and contain dyes and chemicals that will get released with repeated use.
How’d she turn out? I’ve got my first 5 gallon batch using 2 lbs of brown sugar, but I used a coopers ale yeast to try and keep it from getting so dry… might regret it but I guess i will have to wait and see..
“Apple Cider” in America is essentially unfiltered apple juice. cloudy and with more body than just juice. Alcoholic cider we call “Hard cider”. I think the USA is a rare place where the presses and unfiltered cider is consumed without fermentation
I want to try this, but I’m not sure how to install an airlock. Any tips? I haven’t searched the internet yet so I’m sure I’ll find some info eventually, but I figured I’d ask! Thanks!
Your yeast is malnourished and stressed. It needs a little yeast nutrient and you won’t have that smell. The smell is the result of autolysis (Yeast Cannibalism).
Sugar cubes ? hehe Most likely you didnt use enough sugar. Get yourself a hydrometer and lear how to read it. Also I suggest reading a good book on home wine making or watch my video on how to make an easy grape wine that will get you wasted and taste awsome. I”ll send you a link
well the fermentation process went well and it has the semll and taste of alcohol.maybe its because i didnt put enough sugar in it because i scared that sugar would become like a preservative if i put in too much i put like 18-20 regular cubes of sugar
Woops my bad. Anyways Did you follow the recipe, pitc h your yeast etc. Did it bubble and fizz in the fermentation container? Did your airlock bubble? One way to tell if it fermented is to check your Specific Gravity and compare it to your starting SG. If you dont have a Hydrometer I suggest you invest in one. They are cheap like $6. Or last but not least you could have a big drinking problem and u need a shit ton to get drunk lol.
why does this thing smell horrible i made this apfelwein and after like 4 days it started to smell like rotten eggs will this go away should i just wait or should i take action

We call this Turbocider.
The stuff you call cider you mean a puree? cider here is alcoholic and for drinking not baking pies? Juice is just juice.

If you use a different yeast other then Montrachet you probably wont get the SO2.

It will definitely go away, don’t worry. For whatever reason, a lot of sulfur dioxide is produced during this fermentation.

I’m planning on trying to let it sit, I definitely have plenty of other beer to drink in the meantime. Thanks for commenting!
