Question by liverpool fc wolf: how to get my chickens imprinted with their coop?
I have 4 female black austorlorps and possibly a rooster, we want them to be backyard chickens so for now we put them in a small coop with some fence around it (right after the hurricane) until they get imprinted with it and we can let them freeroam, which seems impossible! I’m sick of chasing them into the coop every night and I need some tenquices on how to get them imprinted.

  1. Technique One;

    If you handle the chickens daily and feed them tit bits out of your hand (mine love Shreddies) they will become really tame and you will be able to just pick them up and plonk them in the coop no trouble. 🙂

    Technique Two;

    Instead of chasing them into the coop at night, get them within the fence a few hours before they go to bed and wait for them to go into the actual bed bit by themselves, do this for a couple of weeks and they will soon recognise it as home. Also when you feed them, feed them in the coop to again let them know this is home.

    Eventually when it gets dark they will make their way from wherever they are in the garden to their coop all on their own! You just need patience. 🙂

    Good luck!
