As of this post, I am still just using my own solar water heater for all hot water use in the house. I can tell, the water is cooler as the days go by. So I will need to suppliment with something else soon. Still haven’t decided what as yet.
My Therm count went from 9 last year to 1 last month. I am actually paying more in service fees than usage fees with my own solar water heater. 🙂
Nice design and implementation. This reminds me of a design that I saw years back in Mother Earth News. The only difference being that made a curved box to reflect sunlight into the tank (and the lack of automated controls, of course). Great job!

The remote control is a good idea.
