  1. Ok, I know I am going to get bad ratings for this, but goats are worth more money for meat than pets. Personally, I prefer them alive and grazing in my yard though. It really depends on the breed of goat, some people will also buy them for weed control or as a companion for a horse. Try a local stable and see what they say.

  3. Depends on the Mexican. Is it a wether goat? No Mexican wants to eat tough cabrito, trust me…xD

But if you actually want a serious answer (which I doubt), it varies by region. Where I live, pure bred goats can range from $ 20-$ 100 depending on their use (for meat, milk, or show).

  5. It depends on the goat. A scrub crossbred undersized skinny goat might bring $ 30. A young kid less than that. You can figure roughly $ 1 pound – but there’s more to it. A clean, healthy dairy goat can bring more than meat price – $ 100-200+ and that or a little better for boer or kiko looking bred does in good condition. Just approved an ad for someone with a 100% South African proven buck for $ 2,000. So it really depends on what you have – not all goats are the same. Pygmy and other small goats will be less than other kinds – have seen them go for under $ 20.

  6. It depends on where you are and what breed & gender the goat is, but generally you will be able to get more a goat by selling it as a pet than as a meat goat. In my area, a goat being sold as meat only brings around $ 30 – $ 40. People don’t want to pay a lot for a goat they are going to eat, considering they will still have to process it themselves or pay to have it processed before they can eat it.

For unregistered mixed breeds as pets, wethers go for $ 50 – $ 65, and intact bucks and does go for $ 100 – $ 150. Prices for registered purebreds are double or more.

I keep a waiting list and have no problem getting those prices for my goats (I raise mini breeds like Pygmies & Nigerian Dwarfs, and have some purebreds and some mixes), most are sold before they are even born. Sure there are people that aren’t willing to pay that much, and I tell them to go to an auction where they can pick up a goat for a few bucks. If someone doesn’t want my goats bad enough to meet my prices, then they probably won’t make the best owners for my goats anyway….I want my goats to go to the BEST homes possible….that means good fencing…good vet care….etc, so I want people that are willing to spend a little money on them if necessary.

If your goat is wild, not in the best health, not up to date on shots, etc….you will get more for him/her if you spend some time resolving any health issues and taming him/her down first.

    Good luck.

  7. It depends on what type of goat it is. Your best bet would probably take it to a sell barn and get market price for it. Depending on the weight and quality you would get between $ 65 and $ 125 for it
