Question by Zac S: How long do u have to nurse a newborn baby fawn before you can let it back into the wild?
We found it this morning in the back yard without its mother to be anywhere in sight…we have already gotten goat milk for it and nursed it once…we would just like to know…starting right after birth how long do u have to nurse it?
What do you think? Answer below!
It’s illegal for non-licensed individuals to take in wild animals for any reason.
Deer do not stay with their young during the day – they stash them in the brush and come back periodically to nurse. Your fawn most likley has a mom somewhere, but I highly doubt she will come back now that her fawn smells of humans.
Contact your SPCA and tell them you have a fawn whose mom probably won’t want it now. They will direct you to people who can help the fawn.

…That was WRONG.
The mother doesn’t constantly stay with the baby!
Like most wild animals, the mother comes back to the baby at certain times, and normally at night; during the day, they have to feed themselves and come back for the fawn when ready.
It was wrong for you to take that responsiblity on board, and now the baby is probably going to become overdependent and too trusting of humans and will NOT thrieve in the wild.

YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TOUCHED THAT FAWN
It’s mama had it hidden- because she wasn’t there does not mean it was orphaned- she may hide it hours at a time only returning to nurse it when needed.
Get this fawn to a rehab facility ASAP!!!!!!!!
Keeping it “imprints” it with humans.
Are you willing to lick this fawns butt like his mama does to stimulate it to poop?
If you want this fawn to survive get it the help it needs.

You should put the fawn back where you found it. Mother deer hide their babies while they go off and forage and return periodically to feed it. If where you found it is unsafe, please get it to a wildlife center as soon as possible. Until it can get there, feed the fawn as much as it will drink every 4 hours. If the fawn has too much human contact, it will not be able to be released back to the wild and if it is a male they become very dangerous to people when they mature if they are hand raised by people.

I understand you tried to do the correct thing. But that correct thing was WRONG. Doe’s do not stay with their young in the day time.
If you have a SPCA near by, call them. Tell them you have a fawn that the mom most likely won’t want anymore. And you will probably be able to bring it in.
